in.siel is the design practice of Mikayla Johnston, operating as both a personal brand and an evolving creative identity. The brand carries its own name, but every part of its vision comes directly from her hands, her values and her eye for detail. Additionally, the brand reflects her way of working: intimate, attentive and grounded in a belief that thoughtful design can shift how we inhabit our everyday spaces. Through in.siel, Mikayla offers a practice that is both deeply personal and professionally refined, allowing her voice as a designer to remain clear.

Mikayla Johnston is a Melbourne-based junior interior designer recently graduated from Whitehouse Institute of Design. Residing on the Mornington Peninsula, she splits her time between coastal living and Melbourne’s design community, drawing inspiration from the region’s landscapes and local creative culture. She is currently building her professional portfolio while seeking opportunities within interior studios and multidisciplinary practices.

Mikayla’s practice is rooted in soulfulness and presence, and she enjoys exploring how interiors can be felt before they are seen, creating spaces that invite stillness and emotional connection. Balancing creativity with functionality, she ensures every project is both purposeful and enriching. Her ideas speak through colour and materiality, while adaptability guides her approach to spatial planning. Her work moves beyond surface-level wellness to embrace interiors as lived experiences shaped by daily rhythms and human rituals.
Mikayla’s design identity unfolds at the intersection of artistry and humanity, crafting environments that are quietly powerful and deeply human.
